Abstract: "Dear Accelerometer" is an early prototype of a wireless network of Arduinos streaming accelerometer data from inside 2-3' paper origami boats. This kit is the basis for developing a single boat. Inspired initially by a poignant and tragic scene of love, loss, and hope toward the end of the interactive fiction story "Dear Esther," it is being developed into a critical reflection on the refugee/migrant crisis taking place in the Mediterranean Sea. When participants pick up and turn over each of the origami boats in their hands, they are engaged by the sounds and words associated with the crisis.
